Pamper yourself at the new BellaNirvana
By Jane Northrop
Massage and esthetician services are available at a new day spa in the Manor District.
BellaNirvana is a day spa owned and operated by Michele and Christian Peacox. Both Christian and Michele are devoting themselves to the management end of the business, but Michele is also an experienced massage therapist. For the last four years, she has been working in other spas, including Downward Dog in Pacifica. She discovered she had a gift for massage when she was a child.
They wanted to open BellaNirvana to provide a place where clients can experience the kind of healing they know is possible through massage.
"There's nothing better. People leave feeling and looking wonderful," Michele said.
Additional massage therapists, Clay Acklin and Zari Denegri, and an esthetician, Lisa Grotepas, are available to take care of customers' needs, even on a drop-in basis.
Signature services include the BellaNirvana facial, an introduction to Epicuren Six Step Enzyme System, Crystalline Masque Treatment and men's facials.
The Cinnamon Enzyme Facial does it all deep cleansing, exfoliation and, if needed, extractions, followed by a cinnamon enzyme peel that helps lift, tighten and firm facial skin. That is followed by a tree bark enzyme mask, which rejuvenates the epidermis layer and increases circulation in the face.
BellaNirvana uses the Epicuren product line. It's geared toward anti-aging and is hypoallergenic.
The very relaxing environment at Bella Nirvana is the perfect place for spa treatments, such as a healing stone massage. The massage uses smooth heated stones in tandem with the therapist's hands to penetrate deep into sore muscles. Other modalities available are Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage and reflexology. All massages are available with or without aromatherapy.
Hair removal and waxing and make-up applications are some of the treatments given by the esthetician besides facial services. Bella Nirvana features Mineral Mine make-up from New York City, an all-natural line of makeup that is actually good for the skin and contains a sun block to boot.
The spa has been completely redone since two previous hair salons occupied the space. It is painted a warm, inviting yellow. Skylights and high stained glass windows were added to open up the space. Two new rooms for spa services were built. Each room has its own sound system.
Bella Nirvana has been open for 10 weeks. Besides the spa, Michele and Christian have an Internet business where they sell massage supplies and "I Joy" massage chairs. The items are available at Bella Nirvana, as well. Essential oils and aromatherapy diffuser lamps are very popular, as are some massage therapist tools. Relaxation CDs, massage video and "Power Nap" DVDs make popular gifts.
Christian and Michele are going to begin featuring a new business in the shop every month.

"This is a place where people can be themselves," Michele said.
